So before I descend once again into a world that exists only between my own two ears, a few rantings on current events:
1) Pres. Obama and Defense Secretary Gates are ripping the Air Force apart in an effort to save money, and we will pay for it in the years to come. The Air Force is going to be a force composed of nothing more than unmanned drones, tankers, and airlifters--no new heavy bombers, a few fighters, a few tactical bombers. Long-range heavy bombing will only be possible if the targets are within range of sea- or sub-launched cruise missiles.
My vote: STOP spending on pork-barrel projects; bring the National Guard home from overseas; rebuild the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, and Border Patrol; start developing a true 21st century bomber; protect America rather than Hamid Karzai.
2) The other services will eventually get raped as well because Pres. Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress will cut all the services' budgets in favor of "progressive" social engineering junk like universal single-payer health care, Cap and Trade, and so-called "green" initiatives.
3) Pres. Obama will never abandon or even measurably decrease the number of nuclear warheads in the U.S. arsenal, because nukes will be the only credible deterrence the U.S. will have against Iran, North Korea, China, and Russia.
4) I tried to like Sarah Palin, but when I hear she is the front-runner for the GOP's nomination for president in 2012, I shiver in fear. Please, SOMEONE step forward. Where is Mitt Romney? Even Colin Powell would be preferable. Sarah sounded better in the recent media interviews, and she might have a marginally better executive governance background than Pres. Obama, but she CAN'T be the best the GOP has to offer. I know it's way early, but c'mon--the campaigns will be starting before you know it.
5) Pres. Obama doesn't need to make a decision about increasing troop levels in Afghanistan--he needs to decide what the MISSION is in Afghanistan. Take all the time you want, Mr. President, but tell us what the OBJECTIVE is before you decide troop strength. Please!
My vote: get out of Afghanistan, but ONLY IF we make a commitment to beef up domestic security and intelligence operations. If we're not going to hunt down al-Qaeda in Iraq, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, or Afghanistan, we should be tripling efforts to hunt them down HERE.
6) The trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the others scheduled to go before a federal court in NYC will be a massive circus. Does anyone believe KSM will ever become a free man? If he's locked away in prison even after being found not guilty, is that any better than being locked away in Gitmo? Would that be American justice?
My vote: cite the extreme danger of Muslim fanatics descending on NYC, cancel the trial, declare KSM an enemy combatant, and leave him at Gitmo along with the other 9/11 terrorists.
7) Iran continues to ignore the rest of the world concerning its nuclear program. They are probably like Saddam Hussein's Iraq: they want to world to believe they have weapons of mass destruction, but acutally do not.
My vote: announce advanced military planning with Israel to strike at Iran. Move B-2 and B-1 bombers to Diego Garcia and Bahrain in preparation for a strike against Iran. Overtly threaten war with Iran. Stop screwing around with these third world wackos.
OK. I'm good now. Back to work on the new outline!

Why can't I just RELAX? I finished the first draft of my 22nd novel, "Executive Intent" (in bookstores May 2010 by William Morrow) just 9 days ago, and I can't wait to lock in on an idea for the next one. Can't I just kick back? I guess not.
