CCRR: Combat Crew Rest and Recuperation
After dropping the first 3 games, the Bombers have won the last 2 in a row. The Bombers won its first game of the season and the first game won by the 5th inning, 12-run "mercy rule" by beating the Odyssey All-Stars by the score of 15-3.
The Bombers then won the next week by holding on against the Incline Presbyterian Church 15-9, after giving up 5 runs in the 4th inning. This game also went to only 5 innings but ended with a 75-minute league time limit.
Yours truly finally found the "sweet spot" at the plate and went 5-8 in the past 2 games with 3 singles, 1 double, and 1 triple (actually a double plus one base on an error), with 5 runs scored and 5 RBIs. This bumps my average up to .460, well below last year but slowly improving.
If we're not careful, we'll end up in the playoffs again!
My performance at shortstop still needs work. Can someone please explain to me how to remain calm, take a second, and make a decent throw to first base after scooping up a hot grounder? Only half my throws to first have been on target. It is almost as if I'd be better off not making a throw to first. Help!
The third game in July was rained out in one of the biggest summer thunderstorms I can remember--almost an inch of rain in one hour. We have been fortunate this year because we had a very wet spring and (so far) few dry thunderstorms, so the fire danger, although still high, is not as bad as it has been in recent years. Lake Tahoe is low but not as low as last year; and because they lengthened the boat launching ramps last year because of low lake levels, boating season may make it all the way to Labor Day this year!

Air Battle Force (MAY 2003)
Maverick Pilot Patrick McLanahan Takes aerial warfare into
unknown territory in a heart racing new adventure.
Still smarting from recent losses, the brilliant but unpredictable former USAF
Major General is accepted back into the fold and assigned a simple task: devise
and build the air combat unit of the future. McLanahan's answer: the Air Battle
Force - a rapid-response team of elite commandos protected by state-of-the-art
body armour and supported by an armada of anmanned planes.
His idea is soon put to the test when the oil rich Republic of Turkmenistan
becomes a battleground between Taliban insurgents, former Soviet overlords,
Iranian opportunists and American oil companies and politicians. But can a
handful of commandos half a world away, aided by an unproven force of robot
warplanes, fight and win a war in which semingly everyone - even 'friendly'
forces at home - want them to fail?
'Whe a former pilot turns his hand to thrillers you can take their authenticity
for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters
are first-class... far too good to be missed.'
